Arthur Vermeeren is a player who has been linked with a move to Manchester United already ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail have reported United’s interest, and claim that Newcastle and other Premier League clubs are tracking him too.

The report claims that the Belgian midfielder would cost in the region of £20 million to sign from Royal Antwerp.

So what do Manchester United fans need to know about the potential signing?

Arthur Vermeeren record

Vermeeren only made his professional debut for Antwerp as a second half substitute in the Europa Conference League at against Lillestrøm SK on back in August.

He is a defensive midfielder, who can play slightly further forward too, and Transfermarkt stats show he is still waiting for his first senior goal or assist.

As per WhoScored, he is making 2.9 tackles per league game this season, and has a pass success rate of 85 per cent in the heart of midfield.

He marked his 18th birthday this week by signing a new contract until 2026, which will protect his market value, but certainly does not seem like it will price United out of a move.

What they say

Vermeeren is managed by former Netherlands international midfielder Mark van Bommel and this week he has called the teenager ‘special‘.

As per Nieuwsblad, Van Bommel tipped the midfielder to go on and play for Belgium, saying: “The whole club is very happy with Arthur. I already knew at the first training that he would make minutes. He is doing well, playing top matches every week. His development is going well.

“(A senior call-up) is a question for the new national coach. You know, I think he is capable of playing (at that level), he wouldn’t look out of place in the least. Things can go fast for him, but we shouldn’t put any pressure on him. I’m not saying he should be there. But it is possible.

“Arthur has so far adapted smoothly to every step up. He has a down-to-earth family, doesn’t do crazy things himself. That is already special.”
