What Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said about Erik ten Hag amid Man United rumours – Manchester Evening News

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has previously described Ajax boss Erik ten Hag as one of the “most exciting coaching talents” in the world, amid increasing calls from Manchester United’s supporters for him to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Solskjaer is understood to be increasingly at risk of losing his job at Old Trafford, with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to arch rivals Manchester City condemning United to their fourth defeat in their last six Premier League outings.

Despite Solskjaer’s legendary status at United as a player and goodwill towards him from many fans as manager, patience is starting to wear thin among many supporters.

United’s fans are becoming more and more determined to see a change made and Dutchman Ten Hag is the man that a growing number of supporters want to see installed as Solskjaer’s replacement, should the club seek a change.

If United did sack Solskjaer and go with the supporters’ calls, it would prove to be a popular decision, with Ajax boss Ten Hag considered to have huge potential.

And that is a view shared by Liverpool chief Klopp, who has waxed lyrical about the Ajax chief in the past, outlining just how big a role he has played in the Dutch club’s progression in the last few years.

“Erik is rightly regarded as one of the most exciting coaching talents in world football at the moment because of the work he does with Ajax,” Klopp said, speaking in December last year.

“Of course, it is a wonderful club – one of the stellar names of European football – but in this moment it is clear they have outstanding leadership of the organisation and Erik is a big part of that.

“They have had to adapt in recent seasons after losing a few players to rival clubs. I remember from my own experience at Dortmund how that feels and what a challenge it is.

“How they deal with it is exceptional. The foundations of the team remain solid and they have recruited well. They have a clear identity. I love watching them, I have to say.”

Ten Hag was appointed Ajax head coach in December 2017 and has guided the club to five major trophies, as well being just minutes away from reaching the 2019 Champions League final.
