West Ham United still want to sign Jesse Lingard – he is a special lad, says Stuart Pearce

West Ham United look set to make another attempt to sign Jesse Lingard from Manchester United.

Lingard, 28, scored nine goals in 16 appearances during a loan spell at the London Stadium last season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said on Saturday that Lingard was “going to play a big part” in United’s season, but Stuart Pearce, West Ham’s assistant manager, said yesterday that they wanted to sign the attacking midfielder.

“We would like him to come and join us. That has been an open secret. He was wonderful last year,” Pearce told talkSPORT. “The ball is in Manchester United’s court. He is contracted to them. We would like him with us, there is no doubt about that.
