Despite missing many of their heavy hitters, Manchester United fans must have been confident of claiming all three points on Tuesday. After all, the Red Devils were playing at home against bottom-of-the-barrel Wolverhampton Wanderers, on the back of keeping a clean sheet against Newcastle last week. However, the home side had to be content with a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford, in a game characterised by bizarre calls. Ruben Amorim once again chose to tweak things at the back, while his substitution calls were all wrong as he once again adopted a safety-first approach instead of throwing the kitchen sink. In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, the Argentine did not hold back. He claimed that the 20-time English league champions should be defeating this type of opposition at the Theatre of Dreams, and the lack of risk was an affront to what the club stands for. “Really disappointed. We can’t come here at home and draw this game. We have to win when we play at home. The opponent has to suffer and we didn’t get the three points. “Very frustrating. The team gave everything. Amorim’s risk-aversive tactics on display “We played well with the ball in the first half but then we dropped too much, couldn’t press their centre backs. They were comfortable with the ball and they started moving round and creating spaces. “Wolves don’t deserve the place they are, it’s a strong team. We respect them. We have to take more risks. “The lads are very disappointed, we expect better. We have to take it and accept it and go for the next one.” Not utilising all five subs, while changing things at the back instead of being bold has become a hallmark under Amorim. A draw means the 20-time English league champions remain sixth in the table, squandering the opportunity to go fourth. Up next is a visit to Elland Road to play arch-rivals Leeds United.
