Video: Leeds talents Gelhardt & Greenwood combine for brilliant goal

Two of the latest up-and-coming talents on the books of Premier League outfit Leeds United combined to brilliant effect this evening, during an U23s meeting with Leicester City.

Gelhardt on target Mark Jackson’s men are currently locked in action at the LNER Community Stadium.

On the back of a dismal recent spell of form, which had seen them slip to a quartet of successive Premier League 2 defeats, the Whites welcomed the aforementioned Leicester to west Yorkshire, eyeing a return to winning ways.

And, with a little under half an hour on the clock on Friday evening, Leeds looked well on their way to precisely that.

This comes after two of the most highly regarded starlets in the club’s academy combined in sumptuous fashion, to put Jackson and co. in front.

The goal in question saw Joe Gelhardt, who has of course featured regularly in Marcelo Bielsa’s senior setup of late, pick the ball up 25 yards from goal, before laying off to attacking partner in crime Greenwood.

From here, the former continued his run, allowing one-time Arsenal talent Greenwood to slip Gelhardt in courtesy of a pinpoint defence-splitting pass.

And the teenage hitman made no mistake with his ensuing finish, sitting Leicester’s no.1 down, before confidently dinking into the empty net:

Foxes turn it around Unfortunately for Leeds, however, their evening’s work has since taken a significant turn for the worse.

First, just five minutes after Gelhardt’s opener, the Peacocks were reduced to ten men, when Charlie Cresswell was sent for an early bath owing to a 2nd bookable offence.

And Leicester, in turn, have since made their man advantage count.

A brace on the part of Ethan Michael Fitzhugh means that it is the visitors who currently boast the lead at the LNER Stadium, with a little less than 15 minutes of action to play.
