Former Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is already making history in Brazil. Post-United career The 33-year-old made his debut for Manchester United in 2014. He went on to play 232 times for the club, scoring a total of 35 goals. Lingard famously scored the winner at Wembley in the 2016 FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, and also found the net in the Community Shield final and League Cup final in 2017. The attacking midfielder fell out of favour under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before leaving for West Ham United on loan, and later joining Nottingham Forest permanently in 2022. He left as a free agent in 2023, then joined South Korean side FC Seoul in 2024, spending two seasons at the K-League club. Lingard took the next step in his career earlier this year when he joined Brazilian side Corinthians. Manchester United’s Brazilian star Casemiro has already spoken about how positive it is for the Brazilian league to attract a household name like Lingard. Early success Lingard has so far played seven games for the club and made history in his last match. TalkSPORT report that, “Jesse Lingard is officially off the mark for Corinthians. The former Manchester United star bagged his first goal since joining the Brazilian outfit as they beat Barra 1-0 in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil fifth round tie.” The goal was a well-executed volley from inside the 18-yard box. pic.twitter.com/vxA6HrjyIc — Corinthians (@Corinthians) April 22, 2026 The strike not only proved to be the matchwinner but also made some history. The outlet reports that, “Lingard now holds the honour of being the first and only Englishman to have scored in the Copa do Brasil.” Lingard is also just the third British player to play in Brazil, after Seth Burkett and Northern Ireland’s Jamal Lewis. Corinthians will next be in action against Vasco da Gama on Sunday evening (UK time).
