Video: 1 error leading to goal, 16 possessions lost: United loanee suffers poor end to year in disappointing loss

Manchester United’s Sonny Aljofree had a disappointing Sunday as United’s loanees provided a mixed bag of performances.

Aljofree returned to action with Accrington Stanley after his side’s Boxing Day match was postponed due to bad fog.

The Owd Reds lost 2-1 away to Carlisle United, a poor result which sees the visitors sit only one point above last place in League Two.

Aljofree played the entire 90 minutes of action but only received a 6.1 rating from Sofascore in what was one of his weaker displays as of late.

He contributed defensively with four clearances and also made one blocked shot but was poor for both of Carlisle’s strikes.

The 20 year old lost his man on the wing and Jon James Alexander Mellish raced past the United man before picking out Kadeem Harris to fire home after just 11 minutes.

Disaster struck in the second half when Aljofree played a poor back pass under little pressure which resulted in a mix up between his keeper and the Carlisle forward.

Unluckily for the United youngster the ball broke to Luke Armstrong, who slotted into an empty net.

He was also careless with the ball, losing it 16 times and only completing 74% of his passes.

The Accrington defender did win five out of his 10 aerial battles but could only win one out of his three ground duels.

Wigan Athletic’s Joe Hugill had a much more positive afternoon from an individual perspective as he scored a late goal to equalise for his side, before Wrexham found a late winner.

The United striker came off the bench to fire home his fifth goal of the season for the Latics. He only had 17 minutes of action but his late contribution will surely give his boss, Shaun Maloney, something to think about before the next match.

Rhys Bennett also came off the bench for Fleetwood Town to help his team secure a 1-1 draw with Harrogate Town.

In 24 minutes of action, he made five clearances and won four out of six aerial battles.

James Nolan was in action yesterday for Inverness Caledonian Thistle and played 85 minutes from right back in a disheartening 1-4 home defeat against Cove Rangers.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
