Van Nistelrooy plotting triple January raid on United with Ten Hag’s favourite wonderkids in his sights – report

Manchester United picked up their first win of the Ruben Amorim era when they overcame Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in their Europa League encounter at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Red Devils are unbeaten since Erik ten Hag’s sacking with interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy steadying the ship for the Portuguese to take over.

The former United striker wanted to remain at the club and work with Amorim but the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss decided to bring his own support staff over from Lisbon.

Van Nistelrooy was distraught at the decision but it gave him the opportunity to return to management, something he always wanted and only sacrificed so that he could return to Old Trafford even though it was an assistant role.

RVN to Foxes confirmed

After his departure from United, the 48-year-old has been offered jobs in the Championship with Burnley and Coventry City interested in his services while Hamburg in Bundesliga 2 were also eyeing the former Dutch striker.

However, Leicester City ultimately won the race and have already announced Van Nistelrooy as their new boss to replace Steve Cooper.

This will hand the former PSV Eindhoven boss the chance to send a message to INEOS and Amorim and he will be desperate to start well with the Foxes just a point above the drop zone.

As revealed by CaughtOffside, Van Nistelrooy is eyeing a triple raid on United in January with three academy wonderkids in his sights.

Daniel Gore, who was handed his United debut by Ten Hag last term, is one of his targets alongside another midfield prodigy, Toby Collyer.

The former Brighton academy star was another Ten Hag favourite and he was also given his debut by the ex-Ajax boss but has not got a look-in since Amorim’s arrival.

The interesting target is Harry Amass, who was being targeted by Aston Villa but United have no intention of letting the highly-rated teen leave.

Whether they will change their mind with Van Nistelrooy involved remains to be seen. But a permanent exit should not be sanctioned but a loan deal for the trio makes a lot of sense.

“The Dutchman has a big job on his hands to revitalise the Foxes, and it may well be that the former Man United ace plunders his old club.

Triple raid planned

“Daniel Gore has made only two senior appearances for the first-team. At 20 years of age he still has enough time to make his mark at Old Trafford, but with his contract coming to an end in 2026, both player and club might feel it’s the right time for a new adventure.

“Harry Amass is just 17 and that might explain why the left-back hasn’t been turned to in United’s hour of need – given Luke Shaw’s continued absences. Age is clearly on his side too, so unless the new regime suggest that he will get game time – quickly – he is another that might be well advised to seek his fortune elsewhere.

“20-year-old Toby Collyer is a third player that United have preferred to leave on the bench or out of the squad altogether. All three could benefit for more game time, and even if the moves are only on loan until the end of the season, they’re likely to be advantageous for all concerned.”

A temporary departure and the chance to play senior football with real consequences would hold the trio in good stead moving forwards.

Ideally, it should only be a loan exit unless Amorim sanctions a permanent deal. It will be interesting to see how United react should Van Nistelrooy come calling.
