Manchester United fans will not see former club legend Ruud van Nistelrooy returning to the club’s backroom setup, as manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed he won’t be part of his coaching staff.
Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic reported the news as Amorim began his official duties at Carrington, the club’s training ground, earlier today.
United have released an official statement confirming the same.
They also stated that assistant coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel would also be departing, with a complete update on the first-team coaching staff to follow.
Van Nistelrooy initially returned to Man United over the summer to join Erik ten Hag’s coaching team.
However, after Ten Hag’s dismissal on October 28, the Dutchman assumed an interim leadership role and guided the team through four unbeaten matches.
Under Van Nistelrooy’s stewardship, United achieved two victories over Leicester City, one in the Premier League and another in the Carabao Cup, a win over PAOK in the Europa League, and a draw against Chelsea.
Amorim addressed the coaching change on Sunday, revealing plans to speak with Van Nistelrooy about his future role, noting, “I am very clear, and I will tell you like it is.”
It is a ruthless decision from Amorim, especially considering The Dutchman’s emotional connection with the fans.
