‘Upped his game’: Jonny Evans names the Manchester United player he has changed his mind about this season

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has hailed Alejandro Garnacho for the way in which he has improved his game this season.

This season hasn’t gone to plan for United, who were hoping to kick on after last season’s top-four finish.

United have sadly gone backwards and finding positives from the campaign has been a little tricky.

The rise of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho has been a source of real excitement though, with the two youngsters becoming crucial players.

Garnacho was excellent against Everton last weekend and is now being praised by defender Jonny Evans…

Evans, speaking to TNT Sports ahead of today’s clash with Liverpool, has marvelled at Garnacho’s development.

Evans suggested that he just saw Garnacho as an impact player who could come off the bench or occasionally start games for United.

The experienced centre back has changed his mind though, believing that Garnacho is a nailed-on starter having ‘upped his game’ this season.

“I think Garna’s really upped his game to the point where I probably looked at him as an impact player at the start of the season, but now he’s a starter, without a doubt,” he added.

Garnacho has now bagged five goals and three assists this season, which doesn’t factor in the two penalties he won against Everton.

This has been a season of growth for Garnacho, who seems to be thriving thanks to first-team exposure.

Garnacho eases blow from Antony deal

United invested big money in a right-sided winger back in 2022, luring Antony to Old Trafford from Ajax.

The Brazilian hasn’t really lived up to expectations at United and few can really see much of a future for him at the club.

Fortunately, the pain of seeing Antony’s move falter has been eased by Garnacho emerging as a genuine option down the right flank.

Yes, the money is still a frustration but Garnacho could be United’s right winger for many, many years to come.

That is hugely exciting and Garnacho is still only 19; there is so much potential in his locker and we can’t wait to see him fulfil it at Old Trafford.
