United’s stunning late swoop for Martinez hit by major twist involving club star – report

Manchester United are considering a late stunning swoop for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez but the situation is being complicated by Jadon Sancho.

Sancho yet to find a club

Sancho has been on the market and available for transfer all summer but his search for a new team is still continuing, with less than 48 hours left until the close of the summer transfer window.

There has been some interest in Sancho but he has turned down most of the offers that he’s been presented with, as he refuses to budge on his high wage demands.

AS Roma lodged a bid for the forward, which United were prepared to accept, but Sancho was not satisfied with the personal terms that were put on the table. Besiktas also expressed a willingness to meet United’s asking price but Sancho rebuffed them.

There have been links to Saudi Arabia and Juventus but at the moment, nothing concrete is developing and there is a real risk that United will remain saddled with the 25-year-old, who has been frozen out of the first team.

But, The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath reveals that there remains a chance that Sancho will head to Aston Villa as a makeweight in a deal for goalkeeper Emi Martinez.

Martinez deal depends on Sancho

Earlier today, Fabrizio Romano revealed that United have lined up a late swoop for Martinez in the event that they fail in their efforts to snap up Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens.

Lammens is United’s top target for the goalkeeper target but an agreement with both the player and Antwerp has yet to be struck. United have sent in an improved offer to Lammens.

McGrath confirms that United have indeed enquired about Martinez Sancho’s uncertain situation presents a challenge.

According to The Telegraph journalist, “United have also made inquiries over Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez as a contingency, with the Argentina goalkeeper’s future appearing uncertain over the summer at Villa Park.”

“A deal for the World Cup winner is likely to be complicated, with the possibility of Jadon Sancho going the other way raised during informal talks.”

It’s understood that Sancho is still hoping to leave Old Trafford before the window shuts down at 7pm on Monday.
