Manchester United pulled off yet another last-minute heist on Tuesday, this time away at West Ham United to come away from the London Stadium with a point. Playing two games in the span of four days certainly took its toll, but Michael Carrick will be pleased with the resilience shown by his players. Benjamin Sesko‘s last-minute equaliser meant the Red Devils remain unbeaten since the caretaker head coach came on board. The former United midfielder has restored the club’s DNA while playing an attractive brand of football by giving players the freedom to express themselves, as opposed to Ruben Amorim’s rigid system. But as per Sky Sports, the co-owners have learnt their lesson and will not rush into making a decision before the season concludes. In fact, Carrick is still not the favourite for the top job. INEOS have yet to start the interview process, and will only begin once the current campaign is done and dusted. Qualifying for the Champions League is seen as the best way to attract the top managerial names, while the ex-England international will also be hoping to make the list. Under his stewardship, the team has beaten Arsenal and Manchester City already. “Nevertheless, the club’s bosses will not accelerate their plans to appoint a new head coach, and Carrick is still not the favourite to be the next long-term boss at Old Trafford. “United will make no decision about the top job right now. It has been made clear that they have not yet spoken to any candidates, and they will wait until the end of the season before progressing with an appointment. “To commit to a long-term appointment now would go against everything that United are determined their operation should be: calm, considered, strategic. There will be no short-term fixes, and certainly no decisions as important as the next head coach, made on the limited evidence of just five games.” Michael Carrick will be hoping to impress the hierarchy even further when the 20-time English league champions travel to Everton in two weeks’ time.
