United’s plan to strike deal for PL star under threat as fierce rivals enter advanced negotiations to secure signing – David Ornstein

Tottenham Hotspur have overtaken Manchester United in the race to sign Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi this summer. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United are in “close contact” with the agents of Senesi, who is set to be available as a free agent, having decided to leave the Cherries at the end of the season. It was added that Chelsea and Tottenham also held talks with his representatives. Now, it appears the North London outfit have made further progress in their pursuit. Tottenham in pole position to sign Marcos Senesi According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Tottenham Hotspur are in “advanced talks” to sign Marcos Senesi, subject to maintaining their Premier League status. It is claimed Spurs are “the leading contender” to sign the left-footed Argentine, who will become a free agent in July.  However, Senesi‘s situation remains open with “ongoing interest from other clubs.” Roberto De Zerbi’s side are currently 18th in the Premier League table and two points from safety. It is extremely unlikely that a player of Senesi’s calibre would join Tottenham if they fail to avoid relegation to the Championship. The 28-year-old Argentinian joined Bournemouth from Dutch side Feyenoord for £10.5 million in 2022. He has impressed with his leadership qualities and composure with the ball at his feet. Manchester United make move for Cristian Romero Manchester United, meanwhile, are keeping an eye on Tottenham’s squad heading into the summer. On Thursday, it emerged that the Red Devils have made early enquiries for Spurs captain Cristian Romero. It is believed Romero, who is also an Argentina international, has a clause in his current deal that allows him to leave for free if Spurs go down. As such, he is poised to become “one of the most sought-after free players in the game”.
