United wonderkid sparks fierce tug-of-war as trio of clubs battle to sign him on loan – report

Manchester United prospect Ethan Williams is reportedly the subject of a three-way transfer tussle as the summer window heats up.

Outgoings will be just as important as arrivals this summer, especially when it comes to United’s youngsters. A few will undoubtedly leave the club permanently, while others will head out on loan in search of first-team experience.

One starlet whose future will need to be decided is Williams. The 19-year-old attacker spent the second half of last season at Cheltenham Town.

He made 17 League Two appearances for Cheltenham, scoring two goals and providing as many assists. He amassed 778 minutes during his time at the EV Charger Points Stadium.

Williams helped Cheltenham to a 15th-placed finish.

According to Football Insider, Williams is “being chased” by a few teams including Stockport, Blackpool and Hibernian.

United are already planning for the next phase of Williams’ development and if the Red Devils decide to send him out on loan, there will be no shortage of interest.

A “highly-regarded” prospect at Old Trafford, Football Insider state that United want to loan Williams out again at a higher level than League Two.

As per the news outlet, the push for a temporary exit for Williams may stem from the tough challenge he faces in breaking into Ruben Amorim’s plans for next season.

Several United attackers are already ahead of Williams in the pecking order, and the arrival of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers, as well as the anticipated signing of Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, could see him fall even further down the ranks.

United are likely to choose Williams’ next destination based on which project best supports his development or offers the greatest guarantee of regular playing time.

United midfield talent Jack Moorhouse is another who has been linked with a loan transfer this summer.
