United weigh up loan recall for wonderkid as Amorim seeks solution to problem position – report

Harry Amass has made an impressive start to life on loan at Sheffield Wednesday. The Manchester United left-back has emerged as a rare bright spark in what has been a turbulent season for the Championship side. His energy and attacking intent down the Owls’ left flank have earned widespread plaudits. Remarkably, he has started all 11 matches for which he has been available, a testament to his consistency and growing importance. Over the weekend, despite Wednesday falling to a 3–1 defeat against Southampton, Amass netted a stunning long-range strike; his first goal in senior football. A milestone moment, even if it came in defeat. It raises a fair question: Is Hillsborough the ideal environment for his development? Notably, United inserted a break clause into the teenager’s loan deal, and it may soon come into play. Worry at Hillsborough Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly concerned that United could activate the clause. Head coach Henrik Pedersen hinted as much in his recent comments via The Star: “I spoke with Kevin (Beadell, recruitment manager). Today we’ve been in Manchester to have a meeting with them about this situation for the future. “I think we’ll have this back in the next two or three weeks when we speak about Harry’s development and what it could look like after Christmas.” It is clear from those remarks that United are weighing up whether Amass should remain at Hillsborough beyond the festive period. And given the struggles in United’s left wing-back department, it is understandable if they are considering a recall, potentially giving Amass the chance to stake his claim at left wing-back. Amass could save United millions The 18-year-old impressed whenever called upon last season, and having now flourished in the physically demanding Championship, he may well be worth a shot at left-back. He could offer the competition Patrick Dorgu needs, something Diogo Dalot is not providing. In doing so, Amass could save INEOS millions in transfer fees, funds that might otherwise have been spent on signing a left-back like Federico Dimarco.
