United to wear and auction unique match-worn shirts after crucial Brentford showdown – report

Manchester United entertain Brentford this evening (Monday) in a game that could almost secure their return to the Champions League after a two-year absence. Michael Carrick’s side know that a win will leave them 11 points clear of sixth-placed Brighton with just four games to play, meaning it would take a collapse of monumental proportions to see them drop out of the top five. However, Brentford will not make it easy for United, with Keith Andrews’ side unbeaten in their last five matches and capable of springing a surprise at Old Trafford after a fine season of their own. Change to famous red shirt Whilst United have the advantage of home comforts, there will be a slight change to proceedings at the Theatre of Dreams, with an amendment to the famous red shirt in place for the game. As reported by The Sun, United’s regular jersey sponsor will be swapped for (RED), as Snapdragon’s owners Qualcomm Technologies are working with the charity that partners with brands to help fight AIDS, as well as “the injustices that enable pandemics to thrive”. United’s Chief Business Officer, Marc Armstrong, previously spoke on the initiative and is delighted the club can help drive and promote the work through the home shirt. “Through the power and innovation of our partnership with Snapdragon we are, once again, proud to use the front of the famous Manchester United shirt to raise awareness and tell the story of the vital work undertaken by (RED) to fight against health injustice. Snapdragon shares our ambition to use football as a force for good and the second year of this initiative underlines that aspiration, especially at a time when the world faces enormous challenges in supporting the most vulnerable in society,” he said. The match-worn shirts from both the starting XI and the substitutes will then be up for sale via MatchWornShirt, with the net funds raised being plugged back into the important cause. The shirts will be available to fans and collectors up until May 2, with United hopefully a step closer to Champions League qualification after a win. Seen this before It’s not the first time United have donned the (RED) sponsor, but Carrick will be hoping to avoid a repeat of the scoreline the last time it was seen at Old Trafford. Bruno Fernandes will lead his side out in much better fettle this time around, with United’s fine run of form since the turn of the calendar year giving them a chance to salvage something from what could have been a dreadful campaign.
