United thwarted in last-gasp attempt to snap up highly-rated midfielder – report

Manchester United have missed out on the opportunity to sign a talented young midfielder before the end of the window.

Busy summer

The Red Devils have had a busy summer welcoming Diego Leon, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.

They have also agreed a deal for Belgian keeper Senne Lammens on deadline day.

Nonetheless, many fans still feel the club is short in the midfield department with Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo being the only recognised senior options in the squad.

The Red Devils pursued Carlos Baleba earlier in the window but his club Brighton and Hove Albion issued a hands-off warning.

Midfielder hunt goes on

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has posted on X that United have missed out on the chance of signing a talented young English midfielder.

He claimed, “understand Leicester City have fended off bids from Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester United for highly-rated midfielder Louis Page.”

The post went on to claim that “the England U18 international made his first-team debut this season and had an assist in last Friday’s win over Birmingham.”

Ineos have hardly shied away from signing young talent, as they have agreed deals for Enzo Kana-Biyik, Harley Emsden-James and Diego Leon this summer.

Nonetheless, it seems they won’t be able to add Page, at least in this window.

The 17-year-old has made three appearances for the senior Leicester team and grabbed an assist.

He has represented England Under-17s 10 times, scoring one goal in the process.
