Manchester United are reportedly prepared to spend €30 million to sign Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak.
Despite improving on last season, the Red Devils have still conceded far too many goals and this has often been down to Andre Onana’s erratic form.
The Cameroonian has made some high-profile mistakes, especially in the Premier League which have cost his side points.
Consequently, United have been linked to strengthening their goalkeeping department and there have been rumours that they could make a move for former target Zion Suzuki who is at Parma.
The Peoples Person has also already relayed that they have serious interest in French keeper Lucas Chevalier at LOSC Lille.
Reports in Spain (via Football 365) report that world-class shot-stopper Jan Oblak is also a serious target to replace the beleaguered Onana.
The article states, “the interest in the Slovenian is not exclusive to United. Manchester City also value his potential as a possible replacement for Ederson. Although in Old Trafford they seem to be better positioned to close the deal.”
The Red Devils are said to want to rebuild their squad with talented players and the big Slovenian is a “key piece in their sporting project.”
Los Colchoneros have the player tied down to 2028 but they will reportedly “not place obstacles” in his way as long as their economic demands are met.
“There is talk of a minimum amount of €30 million to finalise the deal, an amount that can be matched by a club with the financial power of United.”
The outlet finishes by saying that as the summer market approaches, “everything indicates that Atlético de Madrid’s goal could undergo a significant change and that Oblak’s fate will be in the English league.”
Oblak has continued his fine form this season as he has conceded just 32 goals in 36 matches in all competitions. At 32 years of age, he would be something of a short-term fix were he to join, albeit a world-class one.
