United star will reject “lucrative offers” to stay at the club, INEOS are still prepared to brutally axe him – report

Harry Maguire has reached a key decision on his future, with the Manchester United defender’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, according to the latest report. A Man in Demand With negotiations ongoing over a new deal, Maguire has given an emphatic reminder to INEOS of his value in the squad with two imperious displays at the heart of Michael Carrick’s defence. The Red Devils delivered crushing blows to bitter rivals Manchester City and Arsenal with back-to-back victories in Carrick’s first week at the helm at Old Trafford. Maguire was outstanding in both games, effectively marshalling Erling Haaland in the derby before literally manhandling Gabriel at the Emirates on Sunday. It’s little wonder there are a host of sides keeping a close eye on Maguire’s contract status this summer, with Chelsea, Everton and West Ham joined by Italian heavyweights, Inter Milan and Napoli, in pursuit of the Englishman on a free transfer. There is also the prospect of an eye-watering offer from the Saudi Pro League to contend with. A move to Serie A would be an astute choice for a defender who turns 33 in March, as the slower pace of football in Italy – with a greater focus on the mental side of the game, rather than the physical – suits players at the tail end of their careers.  However, TEAMtalk reveals Maguire is set on remaining at Old Trafford beyond this summer, and he is prioritising a new contract over offers elsewhere.  Staying Put The report states: “Harry Maguire is placing a new Manchester United contract above every other option on the table, with the defender increasingly confident that he will secure fresh terms at Old Trafford.” Sources close to the defender reveal he has “no intention” of leaving United and that he considers the club the “pinnacle” of English football. “The former Sheffield United and Leicester City man believes he has done more than enough to convince United’s hierarchy that he deserves a new deal. Sources say [he] feels his performances under interim boss Michael Carrick have showcased his enduring value, with the defender emerging as one of the standout figures since the managerial change.” However, a report relayed by The Peoples Person this morning reveals there is “limited willingness” from INEOS to extend Maguire’s deal. Instead, the club’s hierarchy are prioritising opportunities for Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven – two of United’s brightest talents – next season, with a belief that Maguire’s presence may hinder their development. Carrick is understood to be a “fan” of the 32-year-old, though it is unclear what influence he will wield over the club’s long-term planning this summer in his role as caretaker. Maguire’s commitment to playing in a Red shirt next season may be matched by his coach and the fanbase, but if Old Trafford’s rulers decide to trade him in for a younger model, that is the only decision which will matter come the end of the season.
