United star reiterates desire to stay at loan club “for as long as possible” after triumphant breakthrough – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has reiterated his transfer desire following his superb performance for Barcelona in their 2-1 Champions League victory over Newcastle.

Rashford runs riot vs. Newcastle

Rashford lit up St James’ Park as Barcelona secured victory over Newcastle on Thursday evening.

In Lamine Yamal’s absence due to injury, Rashford ensured that the Blaugrana didn’t skip a beat. He broke the deadlock just before the hour mark, heading in a sublime delivery from Jules Kounde.

Moments later, Rashford added a second, unleashing a powerful strike that Nick Pope simply had no chance of keeping out.

Newcastle struck late, though it proved nothing more than a consolation as Barca sealed the victory.

Rashford had been knocking on the door since joining Barcelona from United during the summer transfer window. He registered his first goal contribution (an assist) last weekend as the Spanish giants demolished Valencia 6-0.

His double against Newcastle marked his first goals under Hansi Flick.

As he looks to build on the momentum gained, Rashford has reiterated his desire to make the move to Barcelona a permanent one.

Rashford reiterates transfer position

The England international said [as quoted by Fabrizio Romano on X], “I want to stay as long as possible at Barcelona. I have to focus on doing my job, helping the team in any way I can.”

“I can feel the confidence that Flick has given me. I knew he was great before I signed.”

“But working with him is a real pleasure.”

When United and Barcelona reached an agreement over Rashford, it included a €30m buy option, allowing the Catalans to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
