United star reaches incredible club milestone in Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid

Manchester United star Ella Toone reached an incredible milestone as the club secured a Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid.

United beat Atletico

United continued their strong European form with a 1-0 win against Atletico, their second triumph in as many games this season.

Fridolina Rolfö scored a superb first-half volley to snatch all three points for the Reds.

United were reduced to 10 players after Dominique Janssen was harshly given her marching orders just before the break for a sliding challenge on Gio Garbelini, who was taken off on a stretcher.

The sides were evened out after Alexia Fernandez picked up a second booking with just 15 minutes left on the clock.

Despite Atletico’s late surge for an equaliser, United’s defenders and keeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce stood firm, handling nearly everything that came their way.

Toone and striker Elisabeth Terland were taken off at the break as Marc Skinner brought in defensive cover to shore up the backline.

Toone’s appearance at Centro Deportivo Alcalá de Henares was her 200th for United – a club record.

Toone sets United record

United took to X and congratulated Toone on her fine achievement.

Reacting to the milestone, Toone wrote, “200 appearances for this club.”

“Little Ella never thought it would have been possible. Thank you for all your support over the last 7 years and cheers to making more memories together.”

It’s yet another feather in the cap for Toone, who is already United’s all-time leading goalscorer.

The 26-year-old joined United in 2018 as part of their inaugural FA Women’s Championship winning side.
