United square off with Spurs, Villa, and West Ham in aggressive tussle to sign versatile Ligue 1 midfielder – report

Manchester United are set to face fierce competition in their quest to sign Lille midfielder Angel Gomes.

Having previously represented Man United for three years, Gomes was spotted training in Manchester in January, thereby sparking excitement over a potential return to Old Trafford.

This speculation followed reports of manager Ruben Amorim’s interest in the English national.

It didn’t take long for Gomes himself to speak out on his future. While admitting his awareness of the interest in him, he claimed that he remains fully focused on seeing out the current season with LOSC Lille.

Still, even if Gomes is open to leaving Lille, he may not necessarily depart for Manchester.

GIVEMESPORT reported that United is set to face competition from Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, and West Ham United to secure Gomes’s signature.

“The future of Gomes remains uncertain as Tottenham Hotspur struggle to finalise a deal, opening the door for rival clubs to enter the race, according to GIVEMESPORT sources,” the report read.

“Despite pursuing Gomes since the start of January, Spurs have yet to agree on all terms for a pre-contract, allowing other teams to ignite their interest in recent days.”

“Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Manchester United, and West Ham are all believed to be monitoring the situation closely. Villa hold a strong interest in the midfielder and could present an appealing option for Gomes. Manchester United, his former club, have long considered a potential return but have yet to make any concrete move.”

In addition, the article claimed that Bournemouth may even enter the race as they begin to prepare for the summer transfer market.

Capable of playing in central midfield, on the wing and as a number 10, Gomes could be a valuable addition to United.

Still, it remains unclear whether Amorim will have the opportunity to pursue Gomes, given his limited transfer budget and lack of movement in the winter transfer window.
