United set to meet asking price for sensational 21-yo forward capable of transforming Amorim’s attack – report

Manchester United are prepared to make a bid for Olympique Lyonnais star Rayan Cherki, as per reports.

United defenders, including Victor Lindelof, have received backlash for their dire performance against Newcastle United, as they conceded four goals to succumb to yet another embarrassing defeat under Ruben Amorim.

However, United’s frontline was equally underwhelming, failing to slice open the home side on too many occasions.

The Magpies allowed United to dominate the possession, yet the visitors could not score more than once, appearing devoid of any creativity for the better part of the 90 minutes in Tyneside.

Ruben Amorim is in desperate need of a new player to add spark to his attack and it seems United have identified an ideal option.

According to Fichajes, United are ready to make a move for Cherki.

The French prodigy is brilliantly spearheading Lyon’s attack at the age of 21, having made a difference for his side as a right-winger and an attacking midfielder.

Known for his close control and ability to link up in tight spaces, Cherki has been directly involved in 29 goals for Les Gones.

The Red Devils witnessed his talents first-hand last week when he scored a late goal to make it 2-2 in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals.

The Spanish outlet claim that United are willing to offer £20 million for the France U23 international. However, they face competition from Chelsea, as the alleged price tag is not considered an obstacle for the figures at Stamford Bridge either.

Lyon have no desire to lose their talisman but it is understood the club and the player have an agreement that will allow him to leave for less than £25m in the summer.

The bigger hurdle for the Mancunians in this pursuit might prove to be Chelsea’s interest. The sixth-placed side are currently in a better position to offer European football to Cherki than United.
