United set to hand Amorim his first summer signing, €70m deal agreed for sensational forward – report

Manchester United have a deal in place to sign Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon, as per reports.

The United board left Ruben Amorim with plenty to do for the remainder of the season by not signing a new attacker.

The new gaffer fell out with the side’s talisman Marcus Rashford, who is now on loan at Aston Villa. His current strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have been underwhelming, to say the least. Still, INEOS only signed a defender during the winter transfer window.

Manchester United agree deal for Viktor Gyokeres

According to Fichajes, the club’s hierarchy didn’t sign any marquee name in January as Gyokeres’s arrival was “already on track” for the summer transfer window.

It is claimed that United have secured the signing of the Sweden international for next season, having agreed a deal with Sporting which will allow their star striker to join the Red Devils in the summer.

The 26-year-old is considered one of the most prolific strikers in Europe. He has 34 goals in as many appearances across all competitions this term.

The number nine moved to Lisbon from Coventry City in 2023 and established himself as a key part of Amorim’s lineup, owing to his incredible pace and finishing ability.

Amorim’s departure from Sporting didn’t slow down Gyokeres, who continues to make headlines with his goals for the Lions.

The Swede is tied to the club until the summer of 2028 and his contract includes a release clause valued at €100million.

However, it is understood that the Portuguese outfit have shown their “willingness to negotiate” a fee in the region of €70m to facilitate his exit.

United see Gyokeres as a player who can “lead the project” under Amorim. Having already seen their very successful partnership in Portugal, it’s fair to assume the same could be replicated in England.

Having said that, considering there are plenty of question marks on United’s transfer business due to their financial fair play concerns, it’s best to take the claim of a summer agreement at this stage of the season with a pinch of salt.
