United ready to spend €100m to hand two more blockbuster signings to Amorim, double deal “close” to being agreed – report

Manchester United are planning to sign both Emiliano Martínez and Viktor Gyokeres this summer, as per reports.

United endured their worst-ever Premier League campaign under Ruben Amorim, who also failed to lead his side to the Europa League trophy.

After the embarrassing defeat in Bilbao, it seemed Amorim would be shown the exit doors. However, INEOS decided to keep him at the helm beyond this summer, and are now aptly backing him in the transfer market.

Matheus Cunha is set to join the Red Devils, and Bryan Mbeumo has also agreed to be part of their project, with United understood to be in talks with Brentford to find an agreement over his fee.

A report in Spain suggests the Premier League giants are looking to make two more blockbuster signings.

According to Fichajes, the United board is looking to “finalise” the signings of both Martinez and Gyokeres “for a total of €100 million” in a bid to turn around the club’s fortunes.

The Argentina international is expected to leave Aston Villa this summer and has reportedly emerged as United’s top target for the goalkeeping department.

United are pushing to sign a new shot-stopper as Andre Onana has been something of a liability between the sticks ever since his arrival from Inter Milan.

It is claimed United are very close to signing Martinez, as the negotiations between the two clubs are “progressing smoothly”. The fee for the World Cup winner could be around €30m.

Hojlund, who was signed in the same summer as Onana, has proven to be an even worse acquisition. The 22-year-old is certainly not ready to spearhead United’s attack.

Amorim appears keen on reuniting with Gyokeres, who has established himself as one of Europe’s most prolific goalscorers. He bagged 54 goals in 52 appearances for Sporting CP across all competitions this term.

As per the Spanish outlet, United are willing to meet Sporting’s demands and pay €70m to sign the Swede sensation.

It is a difficult pursuit but if United could pull off the double swoop, that would be some statement of intent from Sir Jim Ratcliffe and company.
