United pushing to “close the deal” for their fifth signing, sensational talent “open to a transfer” – report

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Lucien Agoume from Sevilla.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s refusal to engage in any serious talks over a deal for Carlos Baleba has forced United to look elsewhere, with Ruben Amorim keen on adding a defensive minded midfielder to his ranks this summer.

In recent weeks, United have been strongly linked with Agoume. The ex-Inter Milan talent has found his feet in Seville after a number of difficult loan spells.

Manchester United working on signing Lucien Agoume

According to Fichajes, United have “launched a bid to sign” Agoume.

The 23-year-old joined Sevilla permanently in 2024 and his contract includes a release clause worth €40m.

However, he could reportedly leave the Andalusian club in a deal worth around €25m.

Agoume is “open to a transfer” and there’s little hope in Seville that their midfield linchpin will stay beyond this summer. As such, they are already working on finding his potential replacement.

It is claimed that three Premier League clubs are vying for his signature, but United are in the driving seat.

The Red Devils are “accelerating” their attempts to  “close the deal”.

Lucien Agoume could prove to be brilliant signing for Man United

Amorim started Casemiro instead of Kobbie Mainoo as his defensive midfielder against Arsenal, underlining he wants a solid physical presence alongside Bruno Fernandes in the middle of the park.

Agoume is a combative midfielder, who doesn’t shy away from the dirty work. Manuel Ugarte is also intense out of possession, but he lacks tactical and positional awareness.

Further, the technically proficient Frenchman is very good at making line-breaking passes and could prove to be an ideal option for the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, who both thrive in transition.
