United prepare blockbuster €80m move for world-class French monster, he would transform Amorim’s midfield – report

Manchester United were keen to upgrade their midfield this summer, but failed to make any additions to the position before the end of the transfer window.

If the first five games of the season are any indication, the midfield remains a position of grave concern for the Red Devils.

The Premier League giants have picked up just one win from five games so far across competitions in the current campaign, and are already planning to further invest in the squad in 2026.

A new midfielder will be the priority next year, and multiple names have already been linked with Old Trafford so far.

Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton, Angelo Stiller, and Elliot Anderson are just some of the players apparently on the club’s radar, as per recent reports. However, it now appears that United are also eyeing a Real Madrid star.

Camavinga is wanted in the Premier League

According to journalist Marc Brus, writing in his Daily Briefing update, the Red Devils are among the clubs eyeing a move for Eduardo Camavinga. The report adds that Chelsea and Newcastle United are in the race as well.

Camavinga was once considered the next big thing in world football, and Los Blancos saw off stiff competition to secure his signature in 2021 from Rennes.

However, the Frenchman’s career hasn’t unfolded as expected at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Camavinga was in and out of Carlo Ancelotti’s starting XI last season, managing 35 appearances across competition in a campaign marred by injuries.

While he missed the start of the season due to an ankle injury, the 22 year old’s situation with the LaLiga giants remains fragile. It is believed that Camavinga is no longer indispensable under Xabi Alonso, so a departure could materialise in 2026.

Interestingly, the Frenchman could be a fine alternative to Baleba at the Theatre of Dreams as he is a far more proven midfielder than the Brighton starlet.

Camavinga’s versatility could appeal to Amorim

Camavinga could provide the drive and tenacity in midfield that Amorim’s team lack at the moment. His ability to operate at left-back is likely to be a welcome addition to the roster as well.

However, the Red Devils will not have an easy run at the Frenchman, especially since Chelsea and Newcastle are also hot on his heels. However, United could have an advantage in the race, despite their recent struggles.

Camavinga won’t be guaranteed regular game time at Stamford Bridge, while he can walk into Amorim’s team. Old Trafford is also likely to be a more lucrative destination than St. James’ Park, as was evident this summer.

The player is under contract with Real Madrid until 2029, and could cost around €80m, according to reports.
