United plotting surprise move to sign Mason Greenwood’s teammate, some “groundwork” already done – report

Manchester United have reportedly joined the race to sign Olympique de Marseille star Luis Henrique.

Newcastle United underlined just how far ahead their project is compared to United’s by handing them a 4-1 thrashing over the weekend. They recorded their first league double over the Red Devils for the first time since 1931.

The Geordies looked more sharp, powerful, and technically proficient with the ball at their feet than the lacklustre visitors, highlighting that Ruben Amorim needs a very successful summer of recruitment to close the gap next season.

According to TBR Football, planning is already underway at Old Trafford ahead of the summer transfer window.

It is claimed United are interested in signing Henrique from Marseille and have “started to do some groundwork on a potential deal.”

The Mancunians are scouting the 23-year-old ahead of a possible summer swoop.

The versatile Brazilian has forged a prolific partnership with ex-United talent Mason Greenwood, often playing behind the Englishman on the right flank.

It is understood that Henrique is seen as a “possible option to play in the right wing-back role” under Amorim.

The tenacious South American is equally brilliant as a left-winger and boasts nine goals and eight assists in 31 appearances across all competitions.

However, United face strong competition from Newcastle, as the Magpies have already opened talks to sign the Marseille man. Eddie Howe’s side are in a strong position to secure Champions League football which might give them an upper hand in the race.

Marseille are likely to welcome intense competition for Henrique, whose contract in the south of France runs until 2028. At this point, their asking price remains unclear.

Henrique is not the only Ligue 1 sensation on United’s radar. Earlier today, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Premier League giants are keen on Olympique Lyonnais’s Rayan Cherki.
