United plotting ambitious move for 22-yo Frenchman, club “ready to accept” €60m offer – report

Manchester United are among the clubs interested in signing RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba.

United are currently engaged in talks with Harry Maguire over a new deal, as the Englishman has entered the final year of his contract at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils released Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof at the end of last campaign.

Maguire’s renewal not enough

Maguire, however, is viewed as an integral part of Amorim’s backline, and United want the veteran central defender to extend his stay at the club despite interest from Saudi Arabia

Renewing Maguire’s deal might not be enough, as Amorim has made it clear that he is not going to ditch his system featuring three defenders.

As such, United would do well to add another player at the heart of their defence.

Man United enter race for Lukeba

According to CaughtOffside, United are keeping an eye on Lukeba, who has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most resilient defenders.

The 22-year-old is known for his ability to bring the ball out from the back. Further, the Frenchman is dominant in the air and possesses impressive recovery pace.

His well-rounded profile has also attracted interest from Liverpool and Chelsea. The Premier League trio, including United, all are interested “in a potential €60m transfer move.”

The ex-Lyon prodigy’s contract at Leipzig includes a €90m release clause. However, the German giants are “ready to accept more like €60m.”

Lukeba is a left-footed centre-back, making him a rare and valuable commodity, especially in build-up. Lisandro Martinez is the only established United defender who is a left-footer.

However, the Argentina international has struggled to remain fit all too often. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Martinez, who is sidelined since February, is “finalising details before getting back to professional action.”
