United players relieved with high-profile star’s exit, believe “nonsense” situation has been avoided – report

Manchester United shipped Andre Onana out on loan, leaving his teammates “relieved” with the development.

Onana officially joined Turkish club Trabzonspor on Thursday on a season-long loan.

The Super Lig outfit are not paying any loan fee to United, but they will cover his wages in full. As per multiple reports, the Cameroonian is set for a pay rise in Turkey.

Onana initially wanted to stay at Man United

According to the Manchester Evening News, Onana was “adamant he would stay” at Old Trafford during the final days of the summer window.

However, the 29-year-old missed the entirety of United’s pre-season after sustaining a hamstring injury.

This reportedly didn’t go down well with Ruben Amorim and even saw Onana being omitted from the starting lineup in the Premier League.

Onana did little to improve the situation, delivering a shambolic performance against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.

United acted swiftly and signed Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on deadline day.

Man United stars relieved to have avoided squad problem

It is understood United players are “relieved to have avoided the nonsense” of a four-man goalkeeping department following Onana’s move to Trabzonspor.

The players allegedly felt it would have been a “problem” if Onana had remained at the club. Meanwhile, Onana “effectively felt forced out following the arrival of the 23-year-old.”

As far as Lammens is concerned, the ex-Inter Milan star’s exit should help him find his feet at United without the pressure of competing with the £47.2m signing.

It’s not far-fetched to assume that had Onana stayed, any error from the Belgian would have led to calls for the Cameroon international to return between the sticks due to his experience.
