United on red alert as potential bust-up could open the door to signing in-form PL star – report

Manchester United are yet to provide Ruben Amorim with any fresh faces in the January window, despite the continued poor form under the new head coach.

The winter market is notoriously difficult to do business in but INEOS will no doubt be scouring the market given the current state of affairs at Old Trafford.

With available high quality players at a premium, the chances of United adding many numbers to their squad in the coming days are thin but INEOS may have had their ears pricked by recent developments with a long standing target.

As reported by The Express, United are now on red alert over a potential move for Wolves star man Matheus Cunha after a surprise outburst by manager Vitor Pereira last night (Monday).

Wolves were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge which lead to Pereira singling out Cunha for criticism in his post-match interview.

“He’s a captain, he can be frustrated as he wants to win but everyone in the dressing room wants to win. I do not like his body language,” said Pereira.

Cunha played the full 90 minutes in the defeat but cut a frustrated figure during the game and was also accused of failing to interact with the travelling fans after the game.

The Brazilian responded to a journalist via his X account to dispel the claims with the tone of the reply fuelling the notion he might not be altogether happy in the Midlands.

“Liar. I went to applaud them (away fans), congratulated the referees and the opposing players. Then I went to the tunnel. Don’t ever come and ask me to give you an interview again,” he posted.

The situation comes after it was reported a verbal agreement had been reached over a new contract for Cunha at Wolves but the player is stalling on putting on pen to paper with interest in his services growing.

Arsenal are also reported to be in the hunt to tempt the player away from Molineux and United will have to fend off competition form North London should Cunha decide on pastures new.

Additionally, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has highlighted Cunha’s situation as “one to watch” until the end of January, given the recent developments and his hesitancy in committing to the long-term contract.

Cunha has excelled since arriving in the Premier League and has been in fine form this season, in particular, with Wolves currently sat just outside the relegation zone, much owing to the impact of the 25-year-old.

The Brazilian’s direct style would certainly provide Amorim with something he is badly missing in his current crop; pace, power and a threat in front of goal that United are desperately lacking in attacking areas.
