United make surprise approach for €80m Frenchman, league leaders ready to sell – report

Barcelona’s financial predicament could impact Manchester United’s transfer plans, both positively and negatively. It has been widely reported that Hansi Flick wants Barcelona to sign Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis. United are more than happy to part ways with their academy product. Still, the La Liga giants are reluctant to trigger the £26 million (€30m) buy option clause, leaving Rashford’s future uncertain. At the same time, the Catalans are willing to sell one of their most consistent performers to raise funds for further investment in the transfer market. Manchester United make move for Jules Kounde Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Manchester United are “closely monitoring” Jules Kounde, with Barcelona willing to listen to offers in the region of €80m (£69.5m) for the Frenchman. According to Fichajes, United have now started enquiries to understand Kounde’s situation ahead of the summer transfer window. The “complete defender”, known for his physicality, technical ability and versatility, has also attracted interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City.  The Spanish outlet claims City are prepared to offer around €50m to sign the 27-year-old. However, the La Liga leaders continue to demand €80m for the right-back. It remains to be seen whether United would enter the bidding war for Kounde. Not an ideal fit for Manchester United United’s search of a new central defender is intensifying with Harry Maguire nearing the end of his contract at Old Trafford. However, Kounde has not played at the heart of the defence on a regular basis since 2023. Both Xavi and Flick have made the most of his pace and passing ability by pushing him out wide.  Considering Kounde’s recent role and Barca’s asking price, United would be better suited looking for someone else.  Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo has impressed the club’s scouts and could prove to be an appealing option, especially if Forest are relegated to the Championship.
