United lining up sensational summer swoop for powerful and explosive striker who ran rings around De Ligt – report

Manchester United have reportedly lined up a summer move for Porto striker Samu Aghehowa in case they fail in their bid to land Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres.

Signing a new striker is one of United’s top priorities heading into the transfer window, with Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund struggling to consistently come up with the goods in front of goal.

Osimhen and Gyokeres are believed to be on United’s list but the Red Devils have also scouted Aghehowa. The Spain international joined Porto in August 2024 from Atletico Madrid after his move to Chelsea failed to get over the line at the last minute.

He has been a revelation at Porto, scoring 18 goals and providing an additional three assists in 26 games across Liga Portugal and the Europa League.

United know all about Aghehowa, having come up against him in Europe back in October. On that occasion, he scored a brace and ran riot, with the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez struggling to contain him.

Now, GIVEMESPORT reveal that United are eyeing a swoop for the physical and rapid talisman.

According to the news outlet, “Manchester United have pinpointed Omorodion [he changed his name from Omorodion to Aghehowa in homage to his mother] as an alternative attacking option after making contingency plans due to fears they may miss out on leading targets when the transfer window reopens for business, according to GMS sources, and scouts ran the rule over him earlier this month.”

“GMS sources have been informed that Manchester United representatives kept tabs on Omorodion’s performance when they were in the stands for his current employers’ 1-1 draw with fellow title-chasers Sporting and, having seen him seamlessly adjust to life in Portugal after being on Atletico Madrid’s books, a summer swoop is being considered.”

It’s understood that United are at risk of having to pay significantly more than the fee Chelsea agreed to fork out for him last year.

The Blues nearly got the 20-year-old for £34.4m but his price has now skyrocketed due to his impressive performances in Portugal.

Aghehowa is also believed to have a £83m release clause contained in his contract at Estádio do Dragão. GMS add that United like the Porto man because of his “blend of pace and power.”

He also fits the profile of the type of players Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS want at Old Trafford, young and hungry stars with the potential to become world-class.

Aghehowa’s contract with Porto expires in 2029.
