United issue key transfer demand to Bayern before completing loan deal for Mathys Tel – report

Manchester United are reportedly keen on the inclusion of a buy option worth around £45m in any deal for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel.

United are among a number of top English clubs that have been pursuing Tel since it came out that he wants to leave Bayern before the close of the transfer window on February 3.

The other interested teams include Chelsea, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs reached an agreement with Bayern for the permanent signing of Tel but a move failed to get over the line after the player rejected them.

United are believed to be Tel’s preferred transfer destination, with the teenager keen on Rubem Amorim’s side making a bid for him before he decides where he wants to spend the rest of the season.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United established contact with Bayern to explore the possibility of getting a loan deal over the line.

Earlier today, Sky Germany revealed that United made a “verbal offer” for Tel, which is under consideration.

Now, UtdDistrict state that United are eager for any terms of an agreement to include an option to buy the player at the end of the 2024/25 campaign.

“UtdDistrict understands that, amid their discussions with Bayern over a potential loan move for the player this month, the club are aiming to secure a buy option worth £45 million within Tel’s proposed loan deal.”

“Although there is no guarantee that the Bundesliga club will accept this offer, given that they had already agreed to a £50 million fee with Tottenham earlier this week, United are hopeful that they can submit this as an official offer if club-to-club talks go as planned.”

“Furthermore, UtdDistrict understands that United are optimistic that they will be able to bring in the French U21 international through the doors of Carrington on loan before the close of the winter window on 3 February.”

The option of Tel remaining at the Allianz Arena has also not been completely ruled out.

Bayern sporting director Christopher Freund was asked whether Tel staying is a possible scenario.

He told Sky [via Florian Plettenberg on X], “That is absolutely realistic.”

“Mathys is extremely connected to the club. He loves being here. It’s quite possible that he will still be a Bayern Munich player on Tuesday.”

🚨🔴 More on Mathys #Tel. Christoph Freund confirmed our exclusive report from yesterday, stating that it is now also a possible scenario for Tel to stay at FC Bayern.
