In order to strengthen Ruben Amorim’s hand, INEOS are looking to bring in a left wingback but a deal cannot be completed before player sales due to the club’s precarious PSR position.
Whether it be Patrick Dorgu or Tyrick Mitchell, the only way the co-owners can bring a player in is they can make room for him through sales.
Antony is set to move to Real Betis on loan with the Spanish side having no option to buy and while there is no loan fee involved, the club could save a lot through wages even if they are to pay a significant portion.
The Brazilian currently earns £200,000 gross per week (via capology) and the La Liga side are likely to pay around half of that, which will amount to £2,400,000 during his loan spell.
Antony to Real Betis on loan
So United will save an equivalent amount while as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, the loan contract also includes possible penalties which Betis will have to pay the Red Devils should they flout the agreed rules.
If the ex-Ajax star does not play ten or more games, either as a starter or as a full second-half substitute, Betis will have to pay a penalty.
“Antony ‘s signing will cost Real Betis around two million euros, as the Betis club do not pay a loan fee and will only assume part of the player’s salary (200,000 pounds a week).
“Although there are a series of penalties if Antony, being available, does not play ten or more games, either as a starter or as a full second half.”
Secret penalty clause
While no concrete figures are mentioned, this “penalty clause” could financially boost the Red Devils if Betis do not adhere to them.
It has also likely been included to ensure the winger gets as much chances as possible in order to regain his form so that the club can move him on for a decent amount next summer.
United had paid an astonish £82 million for his signature in Erik ten Hag’s first season and he has been one of the worst signings in the club’s history, as highlighted by his incredible miss against Southampton a few days ago.
Amorim has played him as a wingback due to his lack of attacking attributes, which signifies his downfall from his days as a marauding winger for Ajax.
