United in pole position to sign incredible Serie A star after making approach “in past few hours”, ready to pay £47m – report

Manchester United have reportedly positioned themselves to beat Juventus to the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson.

Ederson has seemingly emerged as United’s top midfield target as Ruben Amorim looks to add more physicality and technical ability in the middle of the park.

Casemiro has recently enjoyed a resurgence in form at United after initially struggling to break into Amorim’s starting lineup.

However, at 33, the veteran Brazilian should not be expected to start regularly in the Premier League. Further, Christian Eriksen is set to depart Old Trafford upon the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.

Amorim needs an all-action defensive midfielder who covers a lot of ground and is composed with the ball at his feet. There are few better options out there than Ederson.

In recent weeks, the Italian media has frequently reported about United’s pursuit of the 25-year-old.

Now, it is being suggested that the Premier League giants are in a good position to thwart Juventus’ plans to sign the dynamic midfielder.

According to TuttoSport (via Sport Witness), Juventus see the Atalanta star as a replacement for Douglas Luiz but United are not backing away and have increased contact for him “in past few hours.”

United’s approach is being seen as a “threat” to Juve, who have been trying to get their hands on Ederson since January.

It is understood that the Red Devils are willing to pay between €55m and €60m (£46.85m-£51.11m) to sign the 25-year-old.

The Old Lady will reportedly struggle to compete with the Mancunians’ potential offer.

As such, United are being viewed as a leading candidate in the race for the Atalanta man, whose contract in Bergamo runs until the summer of 2027.
