United in pole position to land long-term Liverpool midfield target with 15 goals last season – report

Manchester United are looking to revamp their midfield with experienced duo Casemiro and Christian Eriksen on their way out of the club next summer.

The buzzword that Ruben Amorim is looking for in all of the club’s targets is intensity with the aforementioned pair struggling to cope with the head coach’s demands, which explains their lack of starts under him.

Amorim’s 3-4-3 system places a lot of emphasis on attacking midfielders and the ideal profile would be someone who can slot in at different positions as skipper Bruno Fernandes has been doing so far.

The Portuguese international has played as a No 10 as well as one of the deep-lying playmakers and having someone of his ilk would go a long way in offering Amorim the options needed to tweak his system from game to game.

Koopmeiners has disappointed at Juve

Long-term target Teun Koopmeiners could become an option in the summer if IlBianconero are to be believed with Juventus not too happy with the Dutchman’s performances.

The Turin-based outfit beat off competition from the Red Devils last summer to secure the 26-year-old’s signature for €55 million but the Netherlands international has failed to showcase the same form he had shown during his Atalanta days.

Koopmeiners, who can play all across the midfield, has managed only two goals and three assists this term while in the previous season, he had 15 goals and seven assists.

His disappointing displays have seen his market value go down and United could look to take advantage next summer.

United to take advantage

His name could come up with Juve sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli set to meet with the 20-time English league champions during further exploratory talks regarding Joshua Zirkzee’s future.

“Given that the discussion could become current, eventually, only in the summer, it is no secret that the 1998 class, Teun Koopmeiners, has many admirers, especially in the Premier League.

“From Manchester United – a club with which Cristiano Giuntoli has spoken and will return to speak about Joshua Zirkzee – to Liverpool , who have already tried for a long time to convince him by exploiting the presence of Arne Slot, his former coach.”

Liverpool are also seemingly in the race and Koopmeiners’ versatility could be a valuable asset for either club. His past goalscoring record signifies his potential but whether INEOS can afford such a massive outlay remains to be seen.
