United in driving seat to sign elite striker, player to make his final decision on July 10 – report

Manchester United will have to wait until July 10 for Victor Osimhen’s transfer decision, as per reports.

Osimhen has officially returned to Napoli following the conclusion of his season-long loan spell at Galatasaray.

Considered one of Europe’s best strikers, the Nigeria international moved to Turkey last summer after falling out with the club’s hierarchy in Naples.

Osimhen enjoyed a prolific stint in Istanbul, scoring 37 goals in all competitions and leading Galatasaray to the Süper Lig title. His exploits have put him on the radar of United and Al-Hilal.

According to Corriere dello Sport, the 26-year-old turned down a €40m-a-year proposal from Al-Hilal before the Club World Cup. Osimhen’s decision was motivated by his desire to remain in Europe.

The Saudi Pro League outfit, who stunned Manchester City in the Club World Cup on Tuesday, are still confident of signing the Nigerian star.

However, the report underlines that Osimhen continues to give priority to European clubs, and at the moment, the race is between United and Galatasaray.

It is understood that the Napoli forward is yet to pick his next club and he will not communicate any final decision until July 10.

The Serie A giants, meanwhile, are keen to resolve his future as soon as possible and if things don’t change imminently, he will be called up for the meeting at the club’s headquarters on July 15.

It seems Galatasaray, who tabled a €16m offer to convince Osimhen to extend his stay, are getting tired of waiting, and have accordingly explored the possibility of signing Richarlison from Tottenham Hotspur.

Interestingly, United may be able to play the waiting game more comfortably. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Red Devils are focused on securing the services of Bryan Mbeumo and then pushing for the sales.

The Mancunians are willing to offload Rasmus Hojlund. His departure could free up significant funds and allow United to make a concrete move for Osimhen.
