United hope to continue dominance over rivals to lift morale-boosting trophy

Manchester United take on Everton tonight in their final match of the United States tour.

They have already beaten West Ham United 2-1 and AFC Bournemouth 4-1 to sit top of the Summer Series table.

United have played Everton 215 times in history with the Reds coming out on top 96 times.

The two sides have drawn 48 with the Toffees winning 71 times.

Here are some storylines to look forward to.

United aim to maintain highly impressive run vs Toffees

The Red Devils have dominated this fixture in recent years.

They have won six out of the last seven matches, including six in a row before March’s 2-2 draw at Goodison Park.

In fact, United have only been beaten two times by Everton in their last 23 fixtures.

This run stretches back to the 2014-2015 season, where they lost 0-3 under Louis van Gaal.

United will experience a new stadium

The Red Devils have been travelling to America on pre-season tour regularly over the last two decades.

This means they have experienced a range of stadiums across different states but the Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta will be something new.

Constructed in 2017, it is the newest stadium United will have played in on tour and is home to the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United.

The stadium has a “retractable roof and air conditioning, meaning the players can escape the high summer heat and humidity of Georgia.”

Seven World Cup games will be played here next year, including one semi-final.

Chance to bag some silverware

United may have already won the Summer Series depending on Bournemouth’s result versus West Ham.

If the earlier match ends in a draw or either team finishes with a lower goal difference, United will be champions.

Nonetheless, if Ruben Amorim’s side avoid defeat, they will be champions on seven or nine points.

Obviously, pre-season trophies are nothing to get too excited about but it could help the already positive mentality of the group.

Moreover, beating Premier League opposition, including three teams who finished above United last season, would only help build confidence in the group.
