Charalampos (Babis) Kostalus is probably the hottest prospect emerging from the Greek Super League.

The 18-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season with Greek champions Olympiacos.

In 21 league appearances, the young striker has registered six goals and one assist.

His resurgence has been instrumental in Olympiacos securing their 48th league title, reclaiming domestic supremacy after two years of trying.

Beyond league success, he played a pivotal role in helping the Piraeus side lift the Greek Cup and was key to their run to the UEFA Europa League round of 16.

His exceptional 2024-25 campaign followed his key role in Olympiacos’ triumph in the 2024 Under-19 UEFA Youth League.

Interest from Europe’s elite

While Kostoulas has been making a name for himself in Greek football, he has also attracted attention from top European clubs.

As reported by The Sun, United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Aston Villa have all been impressed by his performances.

The source claims that United have taken it a step further by making contact with Olympiacos over the Greece Under-21 international.

However, as the 20-time English champions look to follow up their initial approach with a formal bid, a Premier League rival is moving swiftly to beat them to his signature.

Brighton’s aggressive approach

According to the report, Brighton are willing to spend big to secure Kostoulas.

Negotiations between the Seagulls and Olympiacos are ongoing, and it has emerged that Fabian Hurzeler’s side have been asked to pay £34 million to win the race for the striker.

Brighton are keen on the deal but reluctant to meet the valuation.

With Kostoulas tied to Olympiacos until 2030, and given his potential and widespread interest, they may have no choice but to pay up.

Interestingly, reports suggest that the asking price could climb to £42 million.

That said, The Sun reports that Kostoulas’ future will become clearer by Wednesday.

United’s opportunity

With figures being floated, Brighton’s hesitation could allow other suitors, including United, to capitalise and hijack the deal.

For The Red Devils, securing the UEFA Youth League winner would align with INEOS’ vision of recruiting top young talent, as seen with their recent transfer approach.

However, with emerging prospects like Chido Obi coming through and Kostoulas expected to demand regular first-team football, would signing him hinder the young striker’s development?

Either way, to be the best, clubs must secure the best. If United can win the race for Greece’s attacking sensation, it would be a significant coup.
