United enter red-hot race for ‘future Xhaka’ as Ineos look to assemble Amorim’s dream midfield – report

Manchester United are expected to reinforce their midfield next year.

Ruben Amorim’s engine room is crying out for an athletic presence; it yearns for someone who can inject bite, authority, and technical brilliance, qualities that have too often been missing.

Top midfielders continue to be linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams.

Victor Froholdt

The latest name to emerge is FC Porto’s Victor Froholdt, with Teamtalk reporting:

“Adding an international flavour, Porto’s Victor Froholdt has caught the eye of several top clubs, including United, sources have confirmed.

“The 22-year-old Danish midfielder, valued for his energy and set-piece prowess, has starred in Porto’s Champions League and domestic campaigns.

“While no formal bids are imminent, United are ‘watching closely,’ per reliable sources, as Froholdt’s contract enters its final 18 months, potentially lowering his fee.”

Why Froholdt?

The 22-year-old fits the profile United are targeting.

Operating in Porto’s midfield, Froholdt has impressed with his relentless work rate, embracing a role built on dribbling, energy, and defensive steel.

Red-hot race

It is worth noting that United’s interest places them in a fiercely competitive race.

Arsenal, Tottenham, and Atletico Madrid are also monitoring the Dane, with their scouts reportedly tracking his progress.

It is too soon to tell whether United will convert their interest into a formal bid.

However, should they act, they may well be securing a future Granit Xhaka.

Porto’s number #8 boasts a passing range and midfield intelligence that draws comparisons to the Sunderland midfielder Xhaka, particularly in his ability to dictate tempo from deep.
