Manchester United have drawn Fulham at Old Trafford in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
The draw took place this evening ahead of the penultimate game of the round between Doncaster Rovers and Crystal Palace.
United have a good record against the Cottagers, having won 20 and lost 15 of their 58 encounters.
More importantly, they have already done the double over the London side this season, winning 1-0 both at home and away in the Premier League with a debut goal for Josh Zirkzee at Old Trafford in August and a screamer from Lisandro Martinez at Craven Cottage in January.
A home draw should in theory be an advantage to United although at times this season they have struggled in front of their home support.
Avoiding neighbours Manchester City was important. They have been drawn at home to Liverpool’s giant killers, Plymouth Argyle.
The two matches will have to be played on different days to avoid policing issues.
The rest of the draw is as follows:
Preston North End vs Burnley
Aston Villa vs Cardiff City
Doncaster or Palace vs Millwall
Newcastle Utd vs Brighton
Bournemouth vs Wolves
Exeter or Nottingham Forest vs Ipswich Town.
With the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Spurs and Chelsea all already out, the cup draw is wide open and there is still the prospect of a repeat of last year’s final in which United beat City.
The fifth round matches will all take place on the first weekend in March.
