United complete £62.5m Matheus Cunha signing – official announcement to follow soon – report

Manchester United have completed the £62.5 million signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, according to a report.

Mike Keegan (Daily Mail) reveals the Red Devils are set to officially confirm their first signing of the summer window after finalising a deal for Cunha this weekend.

The Brazilian international’s contract at Molineux contains a £62.5 million release clause which United have triggered and agreed to pay across three instalments.

“United will pay Wolves in three instalments of £20.85m over two years after the Molineux club rejected an offer to stagger the payment over five years,” Keegan reveals.

Cunha successfully passed a medical and was spotted leaving the Lowry hotel in Manchester this weekend, having previously agreed personal terms with United last month.

The 26-year-old forward has enjoyed a brilliant campaign for Wolves which saw him scoop up the Black Country side’s Player of the Season award.

He has scored 15 goals and provided six assists in the league this season, often scoring outrageous efforts from impossible angles in an orange shirt.

Ruben Amorim has been desperate to add more reliable firepower to his misfiring front line while also aiming to raise the athletic floor of his team with an emphasis on pace and power in recruitment this summer.

Cunha is a reliable source of goals who is also an excellent dribbler, with a potent pairing of speed and strength in and out of possession. In short, the Brazilian offers Amorim precisely what he has been searching for.

And it’s this profile which saw Cunha emerge as United’s primary target this summer with the club willing to direct the bulk of its transfer budget towards securing the Wolves talisman.

Keegan reveals an official “statement” is due “imminently” from Old Trafford to confirm the £62.5 million deal.
