United close to appointing Palace club doctor to replace outgoing ex-Arsenal man as INEOS shakeup continues – BBC

Manchester United are set to add another key figure to their backroom staff.

Medical department changes

The Red Devils have undergone a plethora of changes across the backroom staff in the last two years.

The medical department has been no different as Gary O’Driscoll was appointed Head of Medical Services in September 2023.

Nonetheless, the club has had a significant amount of injury problems, especially in the 2023-2024 season.

Surprisngly, O’Driscoll and United’s Men’s First Team Doctor, Jim Moxon, both left the club earlier in the year despite their brief time at the club.

It now seems that Ineos have chosen their next appointment in this department.

Imitiaz Ahmad

The BBC report that “Manchester United are close to appointing Crystal Palace club doctor Imitiaz Ahmad as outgoing Gary O’Driscoll’s successor.”

It is understood that “United have undertaken a full process in identifying candidates for their role as the club’s medical figurehead and are in advanced talks with Dr Ahmad, whose official title at Selhurst Park is head of sports medicine and science, over replacing O’Driscoll.”

He is currently serving his notice period at Selhurst Park before the move.

Ahmad will be appointed in the coming weeks as United’s hiring process comes to an end.

He joined Palace in 2024, after spending seven years at Millwall.

Before this, he was involved in England youth international squads, meaning he has spent two decades in sport medical roles in football.

Club sources are said to be pleased with the appointment and feel they have added “another high-quality addition” to their medical team.

United’s performance director, Sam Erith, was reportedly instrumental in the recruitment process.

Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
