“United bracing for offers”: Van Nistelrooy has his eyes on academy wonderkid who has impressed Amorim – report

After their Europa League high, Manchester United crashed back down to Earth last Sunday as Wolverhampton Wanderers completed a Premier League double by beating the hosts 1-0 at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim selected a much-changed XI and his senior stars let him down once again with Rasmus Hojlund putting in another dismal performance.

The only silver lining was the performance of Academy youngsters Tyler Fredricson, who made his senior debut, and Harry Amass, who got back-to-back league starts.

The left wingback was comfortable on the ball and bombed forward at will while being aggressive in his defending and Ruben Amorim was full of praise for the 18-year-old.

Amass has impressed

The England U18 international’s hard work seems to have paid off with the Portuguese tactician placing his trust in him with the former Watford starlet making four senior appearances.

More chances are expected in the coming weeks and it represents a stunning turnaround from the early weeks of the season when former boss Erik ten Hag had termed the youngster not physically ready for the first team.

Amass has 21 appearances for the various age group sides this season as well, registering four assists and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

As per Givemesport, plenty of Championship sides are looking at a loan deal for the young defender including recently-relegated Leicester City, managed by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Amorim plans to take him on pre-season after which a concrete call on his future will be taken.

Plenty of interest from Championship clubs

“Manchester United are expecting Harry Amass to be the subject of loan offers from Championship sides when the transfer window reopens for business in the summer after he has begun making a breakthrough at Old Trafford during the final weeks of the campaign, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“GMS sources have been informed that Leicester City are keen to win the race for Amass after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed last weekend, but they will face stiff competition after he put in a promising performance during Manchester United’s defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“GMS sources have been told that admirers may be forced to play the waiting game in their bid to secure Amass’ services as Manchester United are intending to include him in their pre-season plans before making a decision on whether to allow him to head through the exit door on a temporary basis.”

The Red Devils want adequate backup in each position ahead of next season given Luke Shaw’s injury record and Amass certainly has the potential to stay and fight for a place.
