United agree deal to sign prolific star in a “sensational” move in January, club willing to sell – report

Manchester United tried to add more firepower to their attack during the final days of the summer transfer window.

United looked at a number of strikers over the summer before signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig in a deal worth in the region of €85 million.

Early today, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United considered making an offer to Brighton & Hove Albion striker Danny Welbeck after missing out on Liam Delap to Chelsea.

The Englishman, who spent 16 years at Old Trafford before leaving for Arsenal, is admired at United for his experience and technical quality. He was Brighton’s joint-top scorer in the Premier League last season with ten goals.

Welbeck open to joining Man United in January

Now, FootballTransfers reveal that Welbeck agreed personal terms with United on Deadline Day.

However, there was no time for Brighton to find a replacement and a deal therefore failed to materialise.

It is claimed that a “deal could take place” during the January transfer window, with an agreement with the 34-year-old forward already sealed “ahead of a possible January deal.”

The ex-United star is reportedly “open to completing a sensational return” to Old Trafford, and the Seagulls are willing to sell, as their talisman will be out of contract next summer.

It is understood United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is the “driving force” behind the pursuit, as Welbeck is viewed as a low-cost centre forward option.

Sesko is immensely talented, but he is still relatively inexperienced. As such, signing another striker to share the goalscoring responsibility would be good for the Slovenian’s development.

Man United convinced Baleba to move to Old Trafford this summer

Welbeck’s name was reportedly first mentioned during United’s talks with Brighton over a possible move for midfielder Carlos Baleba.

According to The Athletic, United agreed personal terms with Baleba, who was keen on joining the Red Devils, having held talks with Andre Onana, Bryan Mbeumo, and Leny Yoro.

Amorim wanted to add Baleba to his ranks and pushed for his signing internally. However, the club’s hierarchy could not “justify the price”.
