Tyrell Malacia drops major hint over his future as he makes honest confession about United spell

Former Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has shared an update on his future while looking back on his time at the club. United spell Malacia officially parted ways with United at the end of June following the expiry of his contract. He joined United from Feyenoord in July 2022 as the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era. He went on to make 49 first-team appearances for the club. Malacia enjoyed a positive maiden season in England, helping the club to win the Carabao Cup and finish in third place. However, injuries disrupted his progress and he was unable to get back on track. He spent the second half of the 2024/25 season out on loan at PSV Eindhoven. The Dutchman made just two appearances last term, both against Newcastle, as a late substitute in the home and away fixtures with the Magpies. Now available as a free agent, Malacia told ESPN that there are things happening behind the scenes regarding a potential next move. He also reflected fondly on his time at United. Malacia’s remarks He said [as quoted by Soccernews], “It is beautiful. I have experienced beautiful things, less beautiful things, but I am certainly grateful that I got to play for such a big club.” “Manchester United is a closed chapter. I am curious about what lies ahead.” “I want to be a footballer again, to enjoy the game. That is what I do it for.” He said of his plans for the future, “I am very much a person driven by feeling. The feeling just has to be right. When you regain confidence, you can fly again. That is actually what I want to show.” “Not even to the outside world, but to myself. I just have something to prove to myself. That is how I have always been: that I can look at myself in the mirror every day and say that I was better than yesterday.” “Things are definitely going on.” He reiterated his ambition to return to the Netherlands national team. “Definitely. Ultimately, the first goal is to do well at the club. But after that, the European Championship is coming up, the World Cup… You never know what can happen, but they are certainly things I am looking forward to.” Meanwhile, United are next in action on Friday when they face Rosenborg in their second pre-season friendly.
