With less than week remaining of the summer transfer window, Manchester United will be starting to sweat over how few outgoings they have managed to secure.

Only one member of the ‘bomb squad’ has so far departed Old Trafford – Marcus Rashford heading to Barcelona on loan.

Alejandro Garnacho’s long-anticipated Chelsea switch seems to be edging closer, and Antony is finally on the brink of his wished-for return to Real Betis, but the Jadon Sancho saga is still dragging on.

Roma keen on Sancho

The club to have come closest to singing Sancho this summer is Italian side AS Roma, who have been strongly linked with a £20m transfer.

It is understood that manager Gian Piero Gasperini remains keen on the 25-year-old, even though the move is stalling due to the player’s reluctance to take a pay cut.

It was reported last week that the Serie A side were getting fed up of waiting for Sancho to come round and were even looking at other options.

Spurs enter the fray

With the Roma move up in the air there is time for new clubs to join the race, such as it is, for Sancho.

According to TBR Football, the player has now been offered to Tottenham Hotspur as Thomas Frank searches for a new left winger.

The report notes that Sancho “has been put to the Lilywhites as a potential signing, although work is still being done on other deals first.”

It is understood that Spurs’ preference is Savinho of Manchester City but that Sancho could be an intriguing backup option, making this one to watch during the final days of the window.

No price is mentioned, as this seems like a highly speculative report so far, but it would be reasonable to assume the £20m price tag agreed with Roma would be the same for anyone else.

For his part Sancho may be tempted by a return to London, having spent last season on loan at Chelsea, and a move to a club with more financial muscle than many of those in Italy will doubtless appeal.
