Bruno Guimaraes has received permission to travel to Arsenal and complete his £75m move from Newcastle United. The 28-year-old midfielder will undergo a medical at the Premier League champions within the coming days after both clubs agreed a fee with an announcement of his signing expected shortly afterwards.
The deal represents a key piece of business of Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal’s title defence – while Newcastle will be left to wave goodbye to another key player following the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.
Arsenal will now turn to continuing their pursuit of Guimaraes’ international team-mate Vinicius Jr, although the Gunners believe it is increasingly likely that he stays at Real Madrid, who have significantly upped their new contract offer to the Brazilian star.
Liverpool, meanwhile, want to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain and have also lined up his teammate Ibrahim Mbaye in what could be a double swoop for Andoni Iraola’s side. The European champions may be willing to let them go with Maghnes Akliouche is set to join from Monaco.
Elsewhere, Manchester United want to sign a left-back with Lewis Hall reportedly now set on a move to Old Trafford, but Newcastle are determined to stop the exodus and insist he is not for sale.

Matthias Jaissle talks Newcastle
Newcastle’s new manager has been confirmed as Matthias Jaissle and he has been speaking about what it is like to join the club.
He said: “They were stressful days, it’s behind us now but there were really good honest conversations with the decision makers at Newcastle – and obviously, overall there is only excitement.
“Joining this marvellous club, with this fan base, is something special and a privilege.

Aston Villa eye Atletico defender
Aston Villa are interested in Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid.
Spanish newspaper Marca reports that Unai Emery is monitoring the Italian left-back.
The 24-year-old joined the La Liga giants from Atalanta in 2025 but is now on Villa’s radar as they bid to battle in the Premier League and Champions League this term.
Ruggeri could replace Lucas Digne, who is set to join Paris Saint-Germain as a back-up to Nuno Mendes.

Tijjani Reijnders to Nottingham Forest?
This would be a surprise move. Nottingham Forest have been linked with Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
Forest have shown an interest in the Netherlands international, according to the Daily Mail, as they look to replace Elliot Anderson – who went the other way and joined Man City this summer.
The former Milan midfielder is valued at around £55m, while Forest have also been linked with Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall.

Why is Mohamed Salah signing for Trabzonspor?
Mohamed Salah is just two seasons removed from an outstanding Premier League campaign where he scored 29 goals and made 18 assists in 2024-25, so to see the 34-year-old end up in the Super Lig is somewhat surprising.
But the forward scored just seven league goals in his final season at Liverpool, with his minutes diminished amid a falling out with former Reds boss Arne Slot, so it also makes sense that Salah’s range of suitors was somewhat limited.

Mohamed Salah and his new club Trabzonspor
Trabzonspor are generally viewed as the fourth-biggest side in Turkey. Based in the city of Trabzon, on the Black Sea, Trabzonspor have been champions of Turkey seven times, with their most recent title coming in 2021-22.
They are yet to qualify for the Europa League league phase, and face a two-legged play-off this month – so European football is by no means a guarantee.
Should Salah sign for Trabzonspor, the Egypt captain would instantly become the club’s biggest signing. Their current squad includes on-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, as well as a couple of Cape Verde’s World Cup stars: Wagner Pina and Sidny Lopes Cabral, who scored their stunning goal against Argentina.
As Salah is a free transfer, Trabzonspor would have been able to commit more of their transfer budget towards Salah’s wages. His last contract at Liverpool was enormous and reported to be worth £400,000 per week.

Romero set for Inter move?
Cristian Romero is likely to head to Inter Milan this summer after being linked with a Tottenham exit.
That’s because the Argentina centre-back has “chosen” Inter, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
Romero could link up with John Stones, who joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer after leaving Man City.
The newspaper states a five-year deal is on the table and that Spurs will bank €35m (£30m) plus another €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses.

Liverpool have no plans to sell Cody Gakpo, despite Tottenham expressing their interest in the 27-year-old Netherlands forward.
Gakpo has four years left on his deal and Liverpool would not sanction a move without a direct replacement – although they have been linked with Bradley Barcola this summer, and the PSG star will not come cheap.
Spurs have also been linked with Manchester City forward Savinho, with Roberto De Zerbi keen to improve Tottenham’s attacking options.

Tottenham distance themselves from Nicolas Jackson
Tottenham have distanced themselves with reports linking the club for a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Jackson, 25, has returned from a season-long loan at Bayern Munich and is available for another move this summer.
Spurs have already spent £237m this summer and although they have not ruled out a move for another attacker – with Cody Gakpo and Savinho linked – there will be no move for Jackson.
