Chelsea’s Neto transfer stance revealed as Maresca eyes reunion
Chelsea would demand a big fee for Pedro Neto if they were to consider a sale this summer, writes Dom Smith.
Standard Sport reported last month that Chelsea are not actively looking to offload the Portugal winger, and that remains the case, despite interest from Manchester City and links to Tottenham and Liverpool, plus clubs in Saudi Arabia.
Sources close to Chelsea have described Neto as “highly, highly valued” and pointed to the inflated nature of fees in the current transfer market involving wingers to indicate that Neto would not be sold unless a very significant offer was made.
Sources at both clubs have denied that Tottenham made an enquiry about Neto’s availability earlier in the window.
Fulham lead race for Shea Charles as £25m transfer talks progress
Fulham are advancing in talks over a deal for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles as they look to wrap up their third signing of the summer, writes Sam Tabuteau.
Standard Sport understands that Fulham are working on a deal worth around £25million for the former Manchester City academy graduate.
The 22-year-old has attracted plenty of interest this summer after an impressive season with Southampton, as they reached the Championship play-offs before being kicked out as a result of the Spygate scandal.
Leeds United have had two bids for Charles rejected, but it is now believed Fulham are leading the race for his signature.

Vinicius Jr has been pictured arriving for crucial contract talks with Real Madrid, as Arsenal wait to pounce.
The Spanish giants are keen to tie Vinicius down to fresh terms, with his current contract set to expire next summer.
The Brazil star currently earns around €17.5million a year, and is reportedly looking for closer to €30m to sign an extension.
According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid have offered around €22m annually as they look to reach a compromise with the player, who returned to pre-season training on Monday.
Le Journal du Real posted a video on X on Wednesday morning of Vinicius arriving at Real Madrid’s training ground, and was said to be accompanied by his representatives.
Chelsea closing in on Chavarria
Chelsea are closing in on a move for Pep Chavarria, as Xabi Alonso continues an overhaul of the squad, writes Dom Smith.
The 28-year-old left-back has already agreed personal terms with the Blues, and will undergo a medical ahead of completing his move to Stamford Bridge once there is a club-to-club agreement.
Chavarria made 44 appearances across all competitions for Rayo Vallecano last season, including starting the aforementioned European final as the LaLiga side were ultimately beaten 1-0 by Crystal Palace, with Jean-Philippe Mateta scoring the winner.
The Spaniard weighed in with three assists and scored once – against Atletico Madrid in a 3-2 loss.
Why Newcastle will not get full £75m Guimaraes fee from Arsenal
Lyon are set for a transfer windfall after Arsenal agreed a £75million fee with Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes.
After weeks of discussions between intermediaries, a second bid has been accepted by Newcastle for their captain. The Gunners will reported pay the full fee up front, with no further performance-related add-ons due.
Ligue 1 side Lyon will have been assessing negotiations carefully, having inserted a transfer clause in the £38m deal which saw Guimaraes move to Newcastle in 2022.
Lyon are due 20 per cent profit, which is worth around £7.4m.
That takes Newcastle’s recouped fee down to £67.6m, so just under £20m profit on their initial outlay.

Reijnders keen in £55m Nottingham Forest move
Nottingham Forest are exploring deal worth £55m for Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
The Mail report that the Netherlands international is open to the move as he looks for more regular first-team football and a prominent role under Oliver Glasner.
Reijnders joined City from AC Milan last summer for £46.5 million and made 47 appearances across all competitions, although many came as a substitute.
Atletico Madrid showed interest earlier in the transfer window but were deterred by City’s valuation.
Forest are also pursuing Sporting defender Ousmane Diomande and remain interested in Chelsea forward Liam Delap this summer.
Man Utd to trigger Salinas’ release clause
Manchester United are exploring alternative transfer targets to Lewis Hall.
Spanish outlet AS claim Racing Santander defender Jorge Salinas is being monitored.
However, United could face competition from Barcelona for the promising defender.
Mundo Deportivo go further be claiming that Man Utd are ready to trigger Jorge Salinas’ €16million (£13.7m) release clause.
The report claims that Man Utd scouts were impressed by Salinas’s performances during the Under-19 European Champonships, with Spain one with the player at regular at left-back.
Salinas, who can also play at centre-back, has three years to run on his contract at Racing.
Tottenham offered Balogun as Jackson links denied
Monaco and USA striker Folarin Balogun has been offered to Tottenham.
The Sun report that the 25-year-old, who joined the Ligue 1 side from Arsenal in 2023, is hoping to return to English football.
It remains to be seen if Spurs are interest, having yesterday denied rumours of a deal for Nicolas Jackson.

Salah flying in to complete Trabzonspor move
Trabzonspor have confirmed they are in talks to sign Mohamed Salah.
The 34-year-old is available as a free agent after he left Liverpool this summer following nine years at the club, where he scored 257 times in 442 appearances and won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor updated supporters on Tuesday night saying Salah is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul on Wednesday.
A statement read: “Professional footballer Mohamed Salah, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, will be at Istanbul Ataturk Airport General Aviation Terminal at 12:00 on Wednesday, August 5.
“The player is scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours.
“The time and other details regarding the welcome program in Trabzon will be shared with the public through our club’s official communication channels during the day.”
Salah verbally agreed to sign for another Turkish club, Besiktas, earlier in the window before talks broke down, according to reports.

Arsenal hope to complete the signing of Bruno Guimaraes within the next 48 hours, report BBC Sport.
The Brazil midfielder is awaiting permission to leave Newcastle’s training camp in La Manga, Spain, to complete the formalities of his move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal are preparing for the 28-year-old’s medical later this week.
BBC Sport report that the the transfer fee expected to be worth up to £80m, not the £75m earlier reported.
